Firstly you hope they never use the power, but in this week’s chat with Hong Kong Radio 3’s Phil Whelan we look at the reality, that under newly sanctioned Hong Kong security laws these possibilities may come true.

Now I would never advocate flouting the law and I have always maintained that nothing should ever be shared and said online that you wouldn’t go down to the Temple Street Night market and shout and show, but you can never be too careful online, so this week, as well as looking at NASA”s newest underwater robot, we talked all things personal security.

Firstly, never sign up to an app or online offering unless you truly know who they are and what you’re signing up for.

Secondly, get yourself a really good spyware / antivirus program and VPN (Virtual Private Network) – the best ways to choose is to ask a friend or do an online search for the top 10 antivirus programs (change the date range to last 3 months) and read all the reviews and then check another site and another site, before selecting your final choice.

Thirdly, delete any software and app that you haven’t used in the last 3 months, especially the games, these often carry virus’s, spyware and back doors that allow others access to your phone.

Fourth, never click on an email or social media link that you’re unsure about. Instead, if it’s something you think may be necessary for you to do, phone the company or access them through their website or app.

Next, cover your webcam whenever you’re not using it, and

Change all your router names and passwords to non generic words, phrases or something difficult to guess.
